MAKING a Donation OR LEAVING A LegacY
The Club relies on subscription income and any General Fund surplus to supplement the income arising from the investment portfolio to assist those in need.
The Club welcomes any additional donations made as regular (e.g. monthly) payments, one off donations, as well as gifts arising from legacy clauses included in members’ wills.
Standing Order
One off or regular donations are very welcome and can be made at any time.
Regular payments can be set up by Standing Order, through your bank, and paid direct to the Royal Navy Club. As little as £5 per month can make a difference.
Alternatively, you can simply use the details to set up payments through your on-line banking arrangements.
Please annotate the payments with your name and initials and also advise the Secretary to ensure the payments are credited in your name.
Direct Debit
Direct Debit payments can also be accepted and these can be established by attaching a Direct Debit mandate to your donation form.
If you are a UK tax payer then Gift Aid enables the Club to benefit from an additional 25% on all payments, reclaimed courtesy of HMRC.
Higher rate tax payers can also reclaim the difference between the basic rate of tax (20%) and their highest rate of tax (e.g. 40%, 45% or 50%).
Such payments must be accompanied by a Gift Aid declaration and again, for your convenience, a form is available for download.
Legacies
The Club welcomes any one off donations, such as those made through a legacy or made in a will.
The Club would always recommend using a Solicitor when drawing up or amending a will, however we have prepared these suggested legacy clauses that you may consider when discussing the contents with your legal advisors:
Pecuniary Legacy (a fixed amount of money)
Legacy Clause wording for England and Wales
i) I give the sum of £__ (pounds) free of tax to The Surplus Fund of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) (Registered Charity No. 248962) of Trafalgar, 2 Elston Meadow, Crediton, Devon EX17 3SZ.
ii) I direct that the receipt of the duly authorised officer of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executor/Trustee.
Legacy Clause wording for Scotland
I direct my Executors/Trustees to pay to The Surplus Fund of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) of Trafalgar, 2 Elston Meadow, Crediton, Devon EX17 3SZ (Registered Charity No. 248962) the sum of £_ (pounds) free of inheritance tax and other fiscal impositions for its general charitable purposes absolutely (to be paid within months of my death and in priority to all other legacies given by this will or codicils hereto) (as soon as convenient after my death but without interest thereon) and I direct that the receipt of the duly authorised officer of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executor/Trustees.
Residual Legacy
(the residue or the part of a residue of an estate)

i) I give __ share of my real and personal property not hereby or by any codicil hereto specifically disposed of after payment of my debts, pecuniary and specific legacies, funeral and administration expenses and any taxes in respect of my estateto to The Surplus Fund of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) (Registered Charity No. 248962) of Trafalgar, 2 Elston Meadow, Crediton, Devon EX17 3SZ.
ii) I direct that the receipt of the duly authorised officer of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executor/Trustee.
Legacy Clause wording for Scotland
I direct my Executors/Trustees to pay and make over a __ share of the residue of my estate to The Surplus Fund of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) of Trafalgar, 2 Elston Meadow, Crediton, Devon EX17 3SZ (Registered Charity No. 248962) for its general charitable purposes absolutely and I direct that the receipt of the duly authorised officer of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889) shall be a sufficient discharge for my Executor/Trustees.
